Free to Air Digital TV
The government announced its support for the introduction of its digital free
service 'FREEVIEW". This will include digitally transmitted
signals for existing free to air channel TV 1, TV2, TV3, C4 and Maori TV. TVNZ
will also be adding two new channels TVNZ NEWS and TVNZ HOME. Other TV networks
will also provide additional programming content in time.
What do I need?
For digital "Freeview" TV you
will need a digital aerial and compatible cable. You will also need a digital
set-top box/decoder connected to your existing TV.
1. Satellite dish or UHF aerial
2. Digital compatible cable
3. Digital set-top box/decoder
What will it cost?
An aerial or satellite dish will
cost approximately $250 -
$350 depending on your particular situation. A set-top box/decoder will cost $180-$300. This will enable digital TV to be viewed on one
TV only. An additional
Set-top box or
decoder is
required if digital viewing is desired
on more than one TV .
